BORSBERRY LAW OFFICES, P.C. ATTORNEYS MEET REQUIREMENTS FOR BEING GUARDIANS AD LITEM IN THE TENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT

On May 1, 2010, Joseph Borsberry and Jennifer Matheny finished their training to become certified as Guardians ad Litem in the Tenth Judical Circuit of Illinois. A Guardian ad Litem is often appointed in custody and domestic violence cases to represent the best interests of the minor children when custody is at issue.

To qualify, Joseph and Jennifer completed a day and a helf training seminar on ethics, psychology, drug abuse and child related issues. As an appointed Guardian ad Litem, the attorney will be responsible for conducting interviews of the children, parents, relatives, and school officials regarding the children. After gathering all of the vital information, the Guardian ad Litem will recommend where the children should be placed to the Judge.

Less than 40 attorneys are currently qualified to be Guardians ad Litem in the Tenth Circuit of Illinois. Attending the training was a valuable experience that will benefite their family law practice.
